The Hounds

The Monmouth County have been a crossbred pack since the transition from Mr. Haskell's harriers in the mid 1960's. Leonard Duffy and Joan Bergmann favored the PennMarydel so their influence was strengthened during their mastership. Although, there were both English and American hounds which had strong influences on the breeding during that time. The Monmouth country has plenty of covert some very deep and swampy, the soil is a mix of sand and clay and the country is well foxed. The successful hound in this country must have nose, drive and must be extremely biddable due to the challenges of deep coverts, plentiful game and roads. In addition to hounds maintained from previous programs, the current pack has strong influences from drafts from Randy Waterman and George Thomas. Many of the hounds in today's pack carry Piedmont Nomad, Gallant and Nutmeg in their pedigrees.
